Memorial Glass...

Our Online Gallery focuses on items that an artist has had on display here over time, rather than items that are available right now.  The goal of our Online Gallery is to provide a good representation of the range of work each artist creates.

If you'd like to order items similar to these, go to the Memorial Orb or the Memorial Float order section.

Bob has been creating Memorial Orbs since he started his studio in 2005.

The Memorial Orb is a solid sphere of 3-3.5” in diameter, and is comprised of multiple layers of clear glass.  The ashes are encased  between the first two layers, and the colors you have chosen are added between the next two.

The Memorial Orb is created right in our glassblowing shop, and ashes are handled meticulously throughout the process. We encourage your to come in and witness the process - seeing the Orb made is often a special time for family members.

Since each Memorial Orb requires only a small amount of ash, it's possible to share a loved one between multiple family members.  Being a solid piece of glass, the Memorial Orb is the sturdiest of our Memorial pieces.

If you're interested in ordering a Memorial Orb, you can do it right through the website - choose the color combination that appeals to you, the size you want, and the pattern you'd like the colors in.  We will contact you with any questions we have.

Note: Since the Memorial Orbs permanently contain ashes, they are not returnable or refundable.

Bob started making Memorial Floats in about 2010.  He initially focused on using the Orb to “hold” ashes, since solid glass is so sturdy.  But the requests kept coming for something that would hold more ash, but be a little less traditional than the standard Urn.  Bob adapted the standard Floats for this purpose by making them with a lot more glass, making them thicker and stronger.

The Memorial Float, then, is a blown glass sphere with a diameter between 4" and 8" - depending on either how much ash you’d like it to hold, or the prominence you’d like it to have while on display.

As with any float, it will have an opening left from where it breaks off the blow pipe.  However, while the standard Floats have the opening sealed immediately with  molten glass, the opening in the Memorial Float remains open, and is ground flat later, once it’s cooled.

Meanwhile, a separate glass disk is made, cooled with the Float and also ground, and will eventually be used to seal the opening in the Float (usually with epoxy).  This allows you to add the ashes to the Memorial Float yourself (the directions for sealing the Memorial Float are here).

If you're interested in ordering a Memorial Float, you can do it right through our website.  Just choose the color combination, the pattern you’d like those colors to be in, and the size you want (the capacity of each size is shown).  We will contact you with any questions we have.
