Bob Meyer

Bob began his career as a glassblower in 2003, taking lessons from Andrea and Dennis Schmitz of Pyromania glassblowing studio in Newport, OR. He went on to work with Larry Sommer of Toledo, OR, where he refined his solo glassblowing skills.

After accumulating his own glassblowing equipment, Bob opened the first version of Ocean Beaches Glass in Seal Rock in October of 2005.

During the following year, Bob started planning a new building with his wife, Vicki. The goal was to move the studio out to Highway 101, and to build it large enough to also house an art gallery. The work started in early 2007, and the new Ocean Beaches Glass Gallery opened in December of that year.

The majority of Bob’s work so far has been in bowls, vases and floats, in which he emphasizes dramatic use of color and the fluid nature of molten glass. He’s also developed certain specialty items, such as “Treasure Floats” (in which “treasures” of a person’s choice can be enclosed in a blown glass float), Memorial Orbs (in which the ashes of a loved one can be encased in solid glass), and custom light shades. You can see Bob in action in our video.

Bob had been a pharmacist in his “previous life” (and is still, on occasion), and continues to relish this opportunity to expand his creativity. You can see Bob’s work at Ocean Beaches Glassblowing Gallery on Highway 101 on the north end of Seal Rock, OR - and now also at his new gallery in Newport, OR.

You will find Bob's most current work in Online Shopping sections of Lighting: Handblown Shades, Ornaments & Floats, Memorial Glass, and Small Vases. You will find a lot of his past work in the Online Gallery section.

This section is intended as more or less a history of the work of our artists.  As such, it is useful more as a means of seeing the evolution of an artists' work, rather than a representation of what the artist is currently creating.

Techniques, colors used, and even form of color are elements that change over time for an artist.  And some pieces will remain unique combinations of color and movement that artist may not be able to reproduce.

If you're interested in ordering some of Bob's work, you're best off going to the Online Shopping category above.  But it may be possible for Bob to reproduce some of the pieces below.

Ocean Beaches Glassblowing & Gallery is owned and operated by Bob and Vicki Meyer.  Bob is the primary artist of the gallery.
